Musical Associations

Mark Scott/Solo

Songwriter, Rhythm Guitar,Keyboards, Lead and Harmony Vocals

During the VIPs (see below) era The Grown-ups was a vehicle for my original compositions, utilitizing the awesome talents of local musicians including Gerry (G.W.) Rose (former John Lee Hooker), John Comerford (former Matt & Mark, Rich Rags), Jeff Levy (former Imagine, Rich Rags, Wrench in the Works) and others. We never actually performed as "The Grown-ups", but at the time I thought we might, and did not want to simply be "Mark Scott". In the past few years I have indeed played solo work, which initially involved playing instrumental piano for upscale events, grand openings, benefits, etc. and now includes singing.

The Clearwater Chorus - 2009-present

Vocals, Rhythm Guitar, Piano

Sing tenor and (more lately) baritone in the Ruth Eckerd Hall-sponsored vocal ensemble, which performs at the renown Ruth Eckerd Hall two or three times a year, and other special events and benefits.

The Inmates - 1988-2004

Songwriter, Rhythm and Lead Guitar, Keyboards, Bass, Lead and Harmony Vocals

Five piece hard rock/dance. This band brought out my multi-instrumentality. Originally recruited as bass player, the keyboardist also played bass, which freed me up to at times play guitar or keyboards, lending a versatile element to our sound. We covered some hits but thrived on quirky AOR rarities. We played many of my original songs, some Rich Rags classics and some we wrote together. We played clubs, parties and and private gigs, The Inmates opened for the likes of B.B.King, REO Speedwagon and BoysIIMen at local concert venues such as Vinoy Park events, Guavaween in Ybor City and headlined the WTAN stage for years in downtown Tampa for Gasparillo.

The VIPs - 1984-88

Songwriter, Bass, Lead and Harmony Vocals

Six-piece pop/dance music ensemble, managed by Ben Cashman Talent Agency. The VIPs played weddings, regular engagements at Spartan Manor, New Port Richey; Eastlake Woodlands, Innisbrook and Saddlebrook Golf Resorts; and headlined festivals at Palm Harbor Days, the Chasco Fiesta Festival in Pasco County, Florida, and the Harvest Moon Ball in Spring Hill.

Rich Rags - 1978-81

Songwriter, Rhythm and Lead Guitar, Keyboards, Lead and Harmony Vocals

Five- and six-piece Rock ‘n’ Roll outfit made a splash in the Tampa Bay area with ground-breaking original material. Won local talent shows, released 2 records: Dentist Office Music – 4-song EP, and "The Original", a 45rpm record.

Matt & Mark/Sweet Madness - 1976-78

Songwriter, Rhythm Guitar, Keyboards, Mandolin, Lead and Harmony Vocals

Like-minded singer/guitarist friend and I cultivated my burgeoning reportoire of music compositions, and included contemporary folk/rock songs with Nancy adding third harmony. This culminated in live performances at pubs and parties. We added bass and a drummer and gained a modest following.
